Seventeen years ago when we introduced our toll-free number, it was a welcome service. We watched the volume of calls decrease through the years as our congregational leaders adopted email. When phone service providers began including free unlimited long distance as part of their packages, our toll-free usage dropped even more. And now, ever-present cell phones are coupled with free long distance and toll-free usage has plummeted. It is no longer cost effective for the district office to maintain a toll-free line.
