As flash flooding devastates parts of Colorado and, more recently, New Mexico, many Unitarian Universalist families have experienced evacuation and loss. Some UU congregations have been damaged: Boulder reports up to 10″ of water in their sanctuary; First Universalist Denver is coping with roof damage. All congregations in affected areas are reaching out to members and their communities.
The Mountain Desert District (MDD) maintains an Emergency Relief Fund to assist individuals in small ways with clean up, restocking, repair, deductibles and similar requests. Much of the clean up and recovery from household water damage falls to residents.
Our prayers are with all of the families and congregations addressing flood damage in the district. The Mountain Desert District is receiving requests for aid, and will mobilize assistance to families and congregations who need extra hands to hasten the recovery from this storm.
