Building a Stronger Democracy: A New Decade for Immigrant Integration

Unitarian Universalists are invited to join the larger faith community, justice activists and other leaders at the National Immigrant Integration Conference (NIIC 2011) in Seattle. The conference is the flagship event for the National Partnership for New Americans,  a partnership of twelve immigrant rights coalitions from across the  country. The Partnership’s mission is to advance the integration and  active citizenship of immigrants across the nation to achieve a vibrant,  just, and welcoming democracy for all.

OneAmerica,  Washington state’s largest immigrant advocacy coalition and current  Partnership Co-Chair, will be the host agency for the 2011 conference.

Conference goals:

  • Increase and deepen our understanding of the different components of immigrant integration,
  • Highlight promising practices, discuss key challenges  and future directions, and provide opportunities for capacity building  and training,
  • Widen the field and bring in new allies and partners  including local government, host communities, and a wider diversity of  immigrant populations.

The conference is structured to provide a space for people  at all different levels of experience to hear from experts in the field  of immigrant integration, share best practices and promising  developments, and put forward their best thinking around key topic areas  and challenges.

Policymakers, practitioners, refugee resettlement professionals, faith leaders, elected officials and government employees, funders, organizers, researchers, business representatives, and others stakeholders from across the country will come together to think and learn together.

The conference is structured to provide a space for people at all different levels of experience to hear from experts in the field of immigrant integration, share best practices and promising developments, and put forward their best thinking around key topic areas and challenges.
