The latest count indicates that Referendum 74, to defend the freedom to marry, has been approved by Washington voters!

UUA President, the Rev. Peter Morales, issued a statement saying this referendum, along with decisions in Maine, Maryland and Minnesota, “…clearly indicate that more and more Americans realize that the freedom to marry strengthens families, protects children, and ensures the basic rights of citizenship for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender couples.”

Our Washington Unitarian Universalist congregations stand ready to welcome couples looking for a venue for their wedding. If you, or someone you know, is planning a same-sex wedding, please contact the Washington UU congregation near you. You may also consult our list of ministers (and others) willing to officiate at weddings and other special services.

The Rev. Morales closed his statement with, “Today, we celebrate these historic steps toward full equality for all Americans. Tomorrow, we continue our important work in the fight for marriage equality. On behalf of our Unitarian Universalist Association, I reaffirm our commitment to stand on the side of love until the freedom to marry is the right of every American.”
